A safe way back to yourSelf (4)

For many people, life can feel exhausting when there is a constant need to mask, self-edit, or push against a world that doesn’t always support your nervous system or natural way of expressing yourself.

You might find yourself caught in cycles of burnout and loss of purpose; perhaps you create art or music that longs to be shared, while being told to “get a real job”, slowly losing faith in yourself. You may have always known – or have only recently realised – that you see the world differently, yet have spent a very long time trying to fit in; and now you feel exhausted, disconnected and lost.

You have been longing to be heard – truly heard – yet sometimes words are not enough to express what is happening inside.

I offer a dedicated space for individuals who identify as creative, intuitive, highly sensitive and/or neurodivergent – or who don't wish to label themselves but simply don’t feel fully at home in the world as it is.

My approach honours the uniqueness of your nervous system and the ways you naturally regulate and express yourself. You might notice that you:

  • resonate with art, poetry, music, symbols, stories or abstract forms of expression
  • feel grounded by soft background music or sounds of nature
  • need minimal sensory input to feel safe and settled
  • regulate best through movement, time outdoors or gentle pacing

Together, we create a space where these needs are welcomed rather than overlooked.

When we are able to decompress from the constant noise and expectations of the outside world, we often become more ready to meet and express parts of ourselves that have remained in the shadows for a long time. From this place of safety and clarity, self-trust and meaning can slowly begin to emerge.

If a creative  or experiential approach feels right to you, we can explore that together. This may include:

  • working with dreams, metaphors, archetypes or symbols that feel meaningful to you
  • working with stories, images or artwork that resonate with your inner world
  • referencing music or songs you feel connected to
  • present-moment exercises that invite awareness, curiosity or new perspectives (used only when they feel supportive).

However, there is no expectation to bring or do any of these; your presence, just as you are, is always enough.

Counselling that honours your depth

Therapy for neurodivergent, creative and highly sensitive people is not a different or special kind of counselling; it is the same relational and supportive process, using existing approaches, but offered with your individual needs in mind. It simply means working through any issues you might wish to bring into session – but taking into account how you experience the world, your sensory needs, your pace and preferred ways of expression. There is nothing to be 'fixed' here – just acknowledged and welcomed into the counselling space.

Many creative, neurodivergent and highly sensitive individuals experience the world more intensely than others. This can shape how you feel, think, relate to others and care for your wellbeing.

People with these traits often [although not always]:

  • Notice sensory details, emotions and subtleties more deeply
  • Feel things strongly and reflect on them for longer
  • Have a rich inner world and creative way of processing experience
  • Become overwhelmed more easily in busy, noisy or demanding environments
  • Spend a lot of energy masking or adapting to fit in

Because of this, anxiety, depression, burnout or emotional exhaustion can develop – not because there is something 'wrong' with you, but because most environments are not designed with people like us in mind.

When therapy recognises your individual way of experiencing the world – including how your nervous system works and how you express yourself – these same qualities can become sources of insight, creativity and reconnection to yourself.

As a practitioner who embraces creative expression, I integrate these tools into our sessions to support your growth. Some of the approaches I use in my integrative practice already include these elements at their core.]
